Recommended Acrobat settings: All versions
The following settings will make it more convenient to work with Adobe Acrobat/Distiller and will give the best results from PowerPoint. There are dozens of other settings in the various dialog boxes you'll visit; you can generally leave them as-is or change them to suit your specific needs.
Once you're done here, see Setup: Acrobat 5 or Setup: Acrobat 6, depending on which version of Acrobat you have.
Choose Start, Settings, Printers and click either Acrobat Distiller or Adobe PDF, depending on whether you have Acrobat 5 or 6 respectively. The steps below describe the Acrobat 6 dialog boxes. The dialogs for Acrobat 5 are virtually identical, but there may be a few minor wording changes. Don't let it bother you. Forge ahead.
From the Printer menu bar, choose Properties
On the General tab, click Printing Preferences
On the Adobe PDF Settings tab put checkmarks next to:
- "View Adobe PDF Results" - This tells Acrobat to launch the newly created PDF automatically so you can view it
- "Prompt for Adobe PDF filename" - This tells Acrobat to ask you for a file name and location rather than choosing one automatically (if you let it choose, it may be hard to find the file later)
Choose the Default Settings selection you want, then click Edit.
- On the General tab choose "Auto-Rotate Pages: Collectively by File"
- On the Advanced tab, make sure there are checkmarks next to "Allow PostScript file to override Adobe PDF (or Distiller) settings" and "Convert gradients to smooth shades".
Click OK as many times as necessary to close all of the various dialogs that you've opened.
